What a psychiatric visit with us includes
This is a psychiatric practice. We diagnose, we manage medication, and we keep seeing you so the plan keeps fitting your life. We do not run therapy groups or weekly talk therapy.
Psychiatry Services
Comprehensive psychiatric care, including diagnosis, treatment planning, and ongoing management led by a board-certified provider.
Medication Management
Careful selection, monitoring, and adjustment of psychiatric medications to maximize benefit and minimize side effects.
Psychiatric Evaluation
A thorough first assessment to understand your history and symptoms and build an accurate diagnosis and plan.

The first appointment
Plan on about an hour. We ask what brought you in, what has and has not helped before, your health and current medications, and what you would like to feel different. You leave with a working diagnosis where one is clear, a plan, and the next visit already on the calendar.
Follow-ups are shorter. They come every few weeks while a plan settles and spread out once it holds, and any medication change is made one step at a time so its effect stays readable.
Office or video, same care
Come to the office, log on from home, or mix the two. The appointment length and the clinician are the same either way.
New patients see Irine Achuamang, a psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner. Dr. Cho provides collaborating physician oversight.
Paying for care
South Bay coverage and how to check yours
We are in network with 19 commercial carriers, including Aetna, Anthem, Beacon Health Options, Carelon, Cigna and others, and you can check your own plan below before you book. TRICARE and TriWest are on that list, so service members, veterans and military families are billed like anyone else here.
We do not currently take Medi-Cal managed care. If that is your coverage, we are a self-pay option rather than a covered visit, and it is better to know that now than at the front desk. Self-pay is $250 for a 60-minute initial psychiatric evaluation and $150 for a 30-minute follow-up visit, and there is a sliding scale. Please ask.

In the same 15 cities, 15.5 percent of working-age adults rely on Medi-Cal or another means-tested program alone and 9.0 percent have no coverage.

Three South Bay drives, measured
Drive times are Google's, sampled once at the hour each note names, in that hour's traffic. Peaks that were not sampled will run longer.
Driving to the office
From Lennox Library at 4359 Lennox Blvd, Google's recommended route ran 16.9 miles via I-405 S and took about 26 minutes at 7.40am Pacific on Monday 26 October 2026, in the morning peak. Late-morning and evening traffic were not sampled.

A neighbor, not a member
The South Bay Cities Council of Governments draws the South Bay as fifteen cities, plus parts of Los Angeles and some unincorporated county land, between the airport and the ports. Long Beach is not on that list. It belongs to the Gateway Cities. Our office is on Long Beach Boulevard, so strictly speaking we sit just outside the South Bay, on its eastern side.
In practice we are close. In a Monday morning-peak sample at 7.40am, Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in West Carson was about 19 minutes away by West Carson Street and the 405, the Lennox Library about 26 minutes down the 405, and Rolling Hills City Hall about 31 minutes by Palos Verdes Drive North. The county even groups Long Beach into the same mental health service area as Torrance, Lomita and the Palos Verdes cities: Service Area 8.
The places a city list leaves out
A list of fifteen cities misses a lot of the South Bay. Lennox has no city government of its own, and the county’s list of its cities leaves it out. West Carson, home to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, is missing from that list too, and so is Wiseburn. A search for a psychiatrist “in” a city assumes a city name those communities do not have. This page is for them as much as for Torrance.
We also measured a drive from Rolling Hills, a city of about 1,500 people up on the Palos Verdes Peninsula. Most of the other South Bay cities have a page of their own here, with their own drive times, linked from this one.
Two unincorporated neighbors, two different pictures
Lennox and West Carson show how much a city list can hide. Both are unincorporated, both sit in the county’s Service Area 8, and both are a short drive from us. Yet in Lennox fewer than half of working-age adults carry commercial coverage and close to one in three rely on Medi-Cal alone, while in West Carson nearly three in four have a commercial plan. One in ten Lennox households has no internet at home, so a video visit there may mean a phone with good signal rather than a laptop on the kitchen table. Whichever picture is yours, start with the coverage check, and tell us how you would like to be seen.
Office or video, your call
From the South Bay, either works. You can take the first, longer appointment in person and the shorter follow-ups from home, or do every visit from home. The clinician and the care are the same both ways.
Coverage in the South Bay
Two in three working-age adults across the fifteen cities carry commercial coverage, which is the kind we bill. Run your plan through the coverage check on this page before booking. About one in six rely on Medi-Cal alone, and we do not currently take Medi-Cal managed care, so for them we are a self-pay option with a sliding scale. For specialty mental health care, the county’s handbook points Medi-Cal members to the county mental health plan.
Crisis help in the South Bay
If you need help now rather than at an appointment, call or text 988, or call the county help line, which answers around the clock. In an emergency, call 911.
South Bay questions
Is your office in the South Bay?
Just outside it. Our office is in Long Beach, which belongs to the Gateway Cities rather than the South Bay council. Even so, the county's Service Area 8 list names Long Beach alongside ten of the fifteen South Bay cities, Torrance, Redondo Beach, Inglewood and the Palos Verdes cities among them. Video visits are available too.
I live in Lennox or West Carson, which have no city government. Can I still see you?
Of course. Unincorporated communities are part of the South Bay, and the drive from both was part of our sample. Check your coverage on this page, then book the way you prefer.
Do you see people from Inglewood and Hawthorne, or only the beach cities?
All of the South Bay. It runs from Inglewood and Hawthorne in the north to the Palos Verdes Peninsula in the south, and the appointment is the same from every part of it, in the office or by video.
How far is the drive from the Palos Verdes Peninsula?
From Rolling Hills City Hall, up on the Peninsula, Google's recommended route took about 31 minutes by Palos Verdes Drive North in our Monday 7.40am sample. A video visit skips the drive entirely.
Is Harbor-UCLA Medical Center part of your practice?
No. Our practice is one office in Long Beach. We used Harbor-UCLA's address in West Carson only as a fixed starting point for measuring a drive.
Can I have the first visit in the office and follow up by video?
Yes. From the South Bay that mix is easy to arrange: one longer appointment in person, then shorter follow-ups from home or work.
