In short

Psychiatric care for El Segundo

El Segundo is about nineteen miles from our Long Beach office, roughly twenty-two minutes on the 405 in a Sunday late-morning sample, longer on a weekday. We provide psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis and medication management. Around eighty-five percent of working-age residents hold commercial insurance we contract with, and video visits cover California.

What we do

Evaluation and medication management for El Segundo

We are a psychiatric practice, not a therapy group and not a clinic directory. That means diagnosis, medication, and someone who keeps track of how you are actually doing over time.

  • Psychiatry Services

Comprehensive psychiatric care, including diagnosis, treatment planning, and ongoing management led by a board-certified provider.

  • Medication Management

Careful selection, monitoring, and adjustment of psychiatric medications to maximize benefit and minimize side effects.

  • Psychiatric Evaluation

A thorough first assessment to understand your history and symptoms and build an accurate diagnosis and plan.

What a first visit looks like

A full psychiatric evaluation runs about an hour. We go through what brought you in, your history, what you have tried before and how it went, physical health and medications, and what you want to be different. You leave with a working diagnosis where one is clear, a plan, and a follow-up booked, not a referral to somewhere else.

Follow-ups are shorter, usually every few weeks at first and further apart once things are steady. Medication changes are made deliberately, one at a time, so it stays possible to tell what is working.

In person or by video, from El Segundo

Both are real options and the clinical care is the same. Video visits are secure and available anywhere in California, which for most people makes the first appointment in person and the routine follow-ups from home or on a work break.

If getting here is the thing standing between you and treatment, take the video visit rather than skipping the care. That is what it is for.

Paying for care

El Segundo's coverage, mostly through work

We are in network with 19 commercial carriers, including Aetna, Anthem, Beacon Health Options, Carelon, Cigna and others, and you can check your own plan below before booking anything. That list includes TRICARE and TriWest, so service members, veterans and military families are billed like anyone else here.

We do not currently take Medi-Cal managed care. If that is your coverage, we are a self-pay option rather than a covered visit, and it is better to know that now than at the front desk. Self-pay is $250 for a 60-minute initial psychiatric evaluation and $150 for a 30-minute follow-up visit, and there is a sliding scale. Please ask.

About visiting us from El Segundo

El Segundo is named after a refinery. According to Chevron’s own history of the site, Standard Oil chose the location in 1911 for its second refinery in California, and the name means “the second” in Spanish. The city was incorporated in 1917 and today describes itself as a 5.5 square mile coastal community, and calls itself the “Aerospace Capital of the World”, with Los Angeles Air Force Base among the employers it lists. The Census Gazetteer gives 5.449 square miles of land holding about 16,769 residents, roughly 3,077 per square mile.

If you work in El Segundo rather than live here, you are just as welcome, and the practical question is less where home is than how a visit fits around a working day. We are about nineteen miles away in Long Beach. Video visits reach anywhere in California and cover evaluation, diagnosis, medication and follow-up, which is often the easiest way to fit care around a job.

For the drive, our honest limitation is that we only have a Sunday sample. At 11.54am on Sunday 4 October 2026, the 405 from City Hall at 350 Main Street measured 18.6 miles and about 22 minutes. East El Segundo Boulevard onto the 405 took about 25 over 17.3 miles, and the 105 east took about 28. The office is closed on Sundays, so those numbers describe a road nobody uses to reach us. A weekday late morning will be slower and rush hour slower again. We would rather leave the weekday number blank than estimate it.

The train is a more realistic option here than in most of the South Bay, because El Segundo has three K Line stations inside its own limits. We checked each one with the Census geocoder: Mariposa is about 1.64 straight-line miles from City Hall, El Segundo Station about 1.70 and Douglas about 2.13. None of them has a single train to us. From Mariposa, Metro’s weekday timetable for Tuesday 6 October 2026 gives the K Line to Aviation / Century in about 4 minutes, the C Line to Willowbrook / Rosa Parks in about 17, and the A Line to Wardlow in about 16. That is 37 minutes in the vehicle, plus whatever the two changes cost, and Wardlow is under half a mile from our door.

Coverage is unlikely to be the obstacle. About 85.1 percent of working-age residents carry commercial insurance, the kind we contract with, 72.8 percent through an employer and 12.4 percent bought directly. Only 5.0 percent are on Medi-Cal, which we do not currently bill, and 3.3 percent have no coverage. Employer plans at large companies can come in several versions with different networks, so the plan name matters as much as the carrier when you call.

Two places residents will know, the Urho Saari Swim Stadium on West Mariposa Avenue, known as The Plunge, and Old Town Music Hall on Richmond Street, both resolve to El Segundo in the Census geocoder.

Our part is narrow and specific: a careful psychiatric evaluation, a working diagnosis, medication where it is the right tool, and reviews often enough to adjust it. We do not provide weekly talking therapy, and if that would help we will say so at the start.

In a crisis, call or text 988 at any hour. The county’s ACCESS Center answers on (800) 854-7771.

Frequently asked questions

How long is the drive from El Segundo on a weekday?

We do not have a weekday number yet, and we would rather say so than guess. Our only sample was a Sunday at 11.54am, when the 405 took about 22 minutes over 18.6 miles from City Hall. The office is closed on Sundays, so treat 22 as the floor. A weekday late morning will be slower, and the 405 at rush hour slower again.

I work in El Segundo but live elsewhere. Can I still come here?

Of course. Where you live does not matter for an appointment, and for in-person visits what counts is the route you would actually take. If video suits a working day better, it covers evaluation, medication and follow-up anywhere in California.

Can I take the train?

Yes, though it means two changes. El Segundo has three K Line stations of its own. From Mariposa it is the K Line to Aviation / Century, the C Line to Willowbrook / Rosa Parks and the A Line to Wardlow, about 37 minutes in the vehicle on a regular weekday, before waits. Wardlow is under half a mile from our door.

My plan comes through a large employer. Will it work?

Very likely. About 72.8 percent of working-age residents here have employer coverage and 12.4 percent buy their own, which together is the commercial insurance we contract with. Large employers sometimes offer several plans, so give us the carrier and the plan name and we will check it before booking.

My heart races out of nowhere and I feel like something is badly wrong. Should I see a psychiatrist?

See your doctor first to rule out a physical cause, which matters. If that comes back clear and the episodes keep returning, they may be panic attacks, and recurrent attacks with a constant fear of the next one are panic disorder. It is common, it is treatable, and an evaluation is a sensible next step.

Is there a county mental health office I should know about?

The county's ACCESS Center on (800) 854-7771 is the place to start at any hour for county services, and it can route you locally. In an emergency, or if you are thinking about suicide, call or text 988 straight away.
