Rail is where Inglewood is oddly badly served for a city with three stations. Metro’s timetable data shows zero weekday trips running from Downtown Inglewood through to Wardlow without a change, out of 528 trips calling there. The route exists, but it is three trains: the K Line to Aviation / Century, the C Line east to Willowbrook / Rosa Parks, then the A Line south to Wardlow, half a mile from us. The riding itself is only about 41 minutes, which is quicker in the vehicle than some cities much closer on the map. The waits are the cost, and we cannot tell you what those are from timetable data alone, so we will not pretend to.

Two of those station names are worth correcting while we are here, because we got them wrong ourselves before checking. Westchester / Veterans Station carries a Los Angeles neighbourhood name and stands inside Inglewood. Hyde Park Station sounds like it belongs to Inglewood and sits in the City of Los Angeles. Willowbrook / Rosa Parks, where the second change happens, is in neither: it stands on unincorporated county land. We ran each one through the Census place geocoder using Metro’s own coordinates, because a station’s name is not evidence of where it is.

Inglewood is dense, 9.067 square miles carrying around 11,533 people per square mile, and that density is part of why the coverage figures look the way they do. It is also a city with a noticeably high veteran population, 4.7 percent of civilian adults, against 3.2 percent in Pasadena and Whittier. That is worth saying plainly here, because TRICARE and TriWest are both on our accepted insurance list. For a good number of veterans and military families in Inglewood, the coverage question is already answered before it gets asked.

A word on what this practice is, since the label covers more ground than we do.
