A Psychiatrist for Los Angeles, Corner by Corner

Eighteen minutes from Wilmington, a single A Line train from downtown, an hour from the Valley. Psychiatric evaluation and medication management.

In short

Psychiatric care for Los Angeles

Los Angeles is too big for one answer. Wilmington, inside the city limits, was eighteen minutes from our Long Beach office in a late-morning sample, downtown was thirty, and Van Nuys took an hour. We provide psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis and medication management, in person or by video anywhere in California.

What we do

Evaluation and medication management for Los Angeles

We are a psychiatric practice, not a therapy group and not a clinic directory. That means diagnosis, medication, and someone who keeps track of how you are actually doing over time.

  • Psychiatry Services

Comprehensive psychiatric care, including diagnosis, treatment planning, and ongoing management led by a board-certified provider.

  • Medication Management

Careful selection, monitoring, and adjustment of psychiatric medications to maximize benefit and minimize side effects.

  • Psychiatric Evaluation

A thorough first assessment to understand your history and symptoms and build an accurate diagnosis and plan.

What a first visit looks like

A full psychiatric evaluation runs about an hour. We go through what brought you in, your history, what you have tried before and how it went, physical health and medications, and what you want to be different. You leave with a working diagnosis where one is clear, a plan, and a follow-up booked, not a referral to somewhere else.

Follow-ups are shorter, usually every few weeks at first and further apart once things are steady. Medication changes are made deliberately, one at a time, so it stays possible to tell what is working.

In person or by video, from Los Angeles

Both are real options and the clinical care is the same. Video visits are secure and available anywhere in California, which for most people makes the first appointment in person and the routine follow-ups from home or on a work break.

If getting here is the thing standing between you and treatment, take the video visit rather than skipping the care. That is what it is for.

Paying for care

Coverage across a city of 3.86 million

We are in network with 19 commercial carriers, including Aetna, Anthem, Beacon Health Options, Carelon, Cigna and others, and you can check your own plan below before booking anything. That list includes TRICARE and TriWest, so service members, veterans and military families are billed like anyone else here.

We do not currently take Medi-Cal managed care. If that is your coverage, we are a self-pay option rather than a covered visit, and it is better to know that now than at the front desk. Self-pay is $250 for a 60-minute initial psychiatric evaluation and $150 for a 30-minute follow-up visit, and there is a sliding scale. Please ask.

About visiting us from Los Angeles

Most location pages can give one drive time and mean it. Los Angeles cannot, because the city is 470.52 square miles of land and its corners are nowhere near each other. So we sampled four of them, all at late morning on Tuesday 29 September 2026, and ran each starting point through the Census place geocoder first to be sure it really sits inside the city limits. They all do. The spread between them is the most useful thing we can tell you.

The Wilmington Municipal Building on North Avalon Boulevard came back at 7.6 miles and about 18 minutes, by Wilmington Avenue and a short stretch of the 405. That is a Los Angeles address, and the city limits run down to the harbor to reach it. City Hall on North Spring Street measured 19.8 miles and about 30 minutes down the 710, with the 110 and 405 tying it at about 30 over a longer 23.2 miles. The West Los Angeles Municipal Building on Corinth Avenue took about 33 minutes on the 405, and eight more if you went by the 10 and the 110 instead. And the constituent service center at 6262 Van Nuys Boulevard, in the San Fernando Valley, took about 1 hour 2 minutes over 37.8 miles, with every alternative Google offered landing within two minutes of that. None of those were peak hours. They were a Tuesday at 11.30 and 11.37, and a weekday commute will be slower.

Downtown has something the rest of the city does not: a single train. Historic Broadway Station on the A Line is about 0.06 miles from City Hall in a straight line, a few minutes on foot. We read Metro’s timetable data for a regular weekday, Tuesday 6 October 2026, rather than trusting the route map, and 120 A Line trains leave Historic Broadway and run all the way to Wardlow Station without a change. The first goes about 3.57am, the last about 12.40am, and every one of them takes 46 minutes. Wardlow sits inside Long Beach, under half a mile from our door. For someone downtown without a car, or who would rather not drive the 710, that is a genuine way to make an appointment.

That train is a downtown fact, though, not a citywide one. From the Van Nuys service center the nearest Metro rail station is North Hollywood, about 4.24 straight-line miles away. Metrolink’s Ventura County Line does stop closer, at Van Nuys Station about 1.83 miles off, but neither reaches Long Beach, so either way you would be changing trains and starting a long ride across the county. At the other end of the city the Wilmington building’s nearest station is Pacific Ave, about 3.94 miles off, and that one is inside Long Beach, not Los Angeles. From Wilmington the car is quickest, though Metro Line 232 to Anaheim Street Station and then the A Line also works, as our Wilmington page explains. The other harbor communities have their own pages too, for San Pedro and Harbor City.

This is where we would be straightforward about video. For anyone in the Valley or on the Westside, an hour or more in each direction to confirm that a dose is working is time with no clinical return. Evaluation, diagnosis, medication and follow-up all work by secure video anywhere in California, and we would rather someone in Van Nuys started that way than put off starting at all. For downtown and the harbor communities, one visit in the room for the first assessment is a reasonable ask, and the reviews can move to video afterward if that suits you.

On coverage, a city of 3,857,263 people does not average out neatly, but the working-age figures are clear enough to plan around. About 57.1 percent carry commercial insurance, which is what we contract with. Of that, 45.5 percent hold an employer plan and a notable 11.6 percent buy their own, which in practice usually means Covered California or a plan purchased straight from a carrier. A directly purchased plan is commercial coverage like any other, so bring the carrier and network name when you call and we will check it. About 23.4 percent are on Medi-Cal or another means-tested program, which we do not currently bill; that is where the clinic stands today rather than a permanent position. And 13.0 percent have no coverage at all. For them, the self-pay rates and a sliding scale are there to ask about, and we will say plainly if they will not work for you.

The county treats Los Angeles as several places rather than one, which fits everything above. Its Department of Mental Health names Van Nuys in Service Area 2, Downtown L.A. in Service Area 4, Westwood and West Los Angeles in Service Area 5, and San Pedro and Wilmington in Service Area 8, which is also the service area this office is in.

What we offer is psychiatric care in the narrow sense. We assess, reach a working diagnosis, start medication where it is the right tool, and review often enough to change course if it is not helping. We do not run weekly talking therapy here. If that is part of what you need, we will say so at the first appointment so you can arrange it closer to home, which in a city this size is usually easy to do.

In a crisis, call or text 988 at any hour. The county’s ACCESS Center answers on (800) 854-7771, day and night.

Frequently asked questions

How far is your office from where I live in Los Angeles?

It depends which Los Angeles. On a Tuesday late morning the Wilmington Municipal Building was 7.6 miles and about 18 minutes away, City Hall was 19.8 miles and about 30, the West LA Municipal Building about 33, and the Van Nuys service center a little over an hour. All four are inside the same city limits.

Can I take the train from downtown?

Yes, and without changing. Historic Broadway Station is a short walk from City Hall, and on a regular weekday 120 A Line trains run from there straight through to Wardlow Station, the first about 3.57am and the last about 12.40am. Each ride is 46 minutes, and Wardlow is under half a mile from our door.

I live in the Valley. Is it realistic to see you?

As a video patient, very. As an in-person patient, less so: the Van Nuys sample took just over an hour at 11.37am, before any rush hour, and the nearest Metro rail station was North Hollywood, four miles off. Evaluation, medication and follow-up all work by secure video anywhere in California, and that is where most Valley patients should start.

What share of Angelenos have insurance you take?

About 57 percent of working-age residents hold commercial coverage, 45.5 percent through an employer and 11.6 percent bought directly, and those are the plans we contract with. Roughly 23 percent are on Medi-Cal, which we do not currently bill, and 13 percent have no coverage at all. Self-pay with a sliding scale is available on request.

I bought my plan myself on Covered California. Does that work?

It often does. A plan you buy directly is still commercial insurance, and more than one in nine working-age Angelenos is covered that way. What matters is the carrier and the network, so tell us both when you call, and we will check before you book rather than leave you to find out from a bill.

My thoughts get stuck on a loop and I cannot switch them off. Is that something you see?

Often. Intrusive thoughts that you recognise as excessive but cannot dismiss, sometimes paired with checking or repeating to quiet them, can be obsessive compulsive disorder, and they can also be part of an anxiety condition. The first appointment is where we sort out which, because the medication and the plan differ.
