What we do
Evaluation and medication management for La Mirada
We are a psychiatric practice, not a therapy group and not a clinic directory. That means diagnosis, medication, and someone who keeps track of how you are actually doing over time.
Psychiatry Services
Comprehensive psychiatric care, including diagnosis, treatment planning, and ongoing management led by a board-certified provider.
Medication Management
Careful selection, monitoring, and adjustment of psychiatric medications to maximize benefit and minimize side effects.
Psychiatric Evaluation
A thorough first assessment to understand your history and symptoms and build an accurate diagnosis and plan.
What a first visit looks like
A full psychiatric evaluation runs about an hour. We go through what brought you in, your history, what you have tried before and how it went, physical health and medications, and what you want to be different. You leave with a working diagnosis where one is clear, a plan, and a follow-up booked, not a referral to somewhere else.
Follow-ups are shorter, usually every few weeks at first and further apart once things are steady. Medication changes are made deliberately, one at a time, so it stays possible to tell what is working.
In person or by video, from La Mirada
Both are real options and the clinical care is the same. Video visits are secure and available anywhere in California, which for most people makes the first appointment in person and the routine follow-ups from home or on a work break.
If getting here is the thing standing between you and treatment, take the video visit rather than skipping the care. That is what it is for.

Paying for care
What La Mirada residents are usually covered by
We are in network with 19 commercial carriers, including Aetna, Anthem, Beacon Health Options, Carelon, Cigna and others, and you can check your own plan below before booking anything. That list includes TRICARE and TriWest, so service members, veterans and military families are billed like anyone else here.
We do not currently take Medi-Cal managed care. If that is your coverage, we are a self-pay option rather than a covered visit, and it is better to know that now than at the front desk. Self-pay is $250 for a 60-minute initial psychiatric evaluation and $150 for a 30-minute follow-up visit, and there is a sliding scale. Please ask.

About visiting us from La Mirada
La Mirada has an unusual origin story for a city, and it says something about the place. It was incorporated on March 23, 1960 as Los Angeles County’s 68th city, under the name Mirada Hills. Residents did not care for it. That November they voted Proposition T through with 80 percent to put the old name back, and the city still describes itself as the first in the county to change its name by its citizens. Before that, the land had filled up at remarkable speed: the city’s own history records that by 1956 there were thirteen tracts and 7,800 homes, most of them already sold. A city built that quickly around the family car is a city where getting anywhere means driving, and that is the frame for everything that follows.
We measured the drive from La Mirada City Hall on La Mirada Boulevard at 11.30am on Tuesday 29 September 2026. The quickest route was the 605 south onto the 405, 21.4 miles in about 32 minutes. The 91 west was the shortest way in at 17.3 miles, and it took about 34. Rosecrans Avenue, a surface route most of the way, came in at 18.1 miles and about 35. So the longest route on the list was the fastest one, by a couple of minutes, and all three landed inside a three-minute window. Take whichever you find easiest. That was a late-morning sample and not a peak hour, so expect the freeway options in particular to stretch at the start and end of the working day.
There is no realistic train. La Mirada has no Metro rail station inside the city at all. The nearest is Norwalk Station, in Norwalk, about 5.36 straight-line miles from City Hall, and Lakewood Blvd Station in Downey is further still at about 7.41. Norwalk is the eastern end of the C Line, which runs west across the county rather than south toward us, and Metro’s weekday timetable shows none of its trains continuing to Wardlow, the stop nearest this office. By rail you would be driving to a station, riding west and then changing onto another line, which is not worth recommending to anyone who has a car.
The coverage picture is straightforward for most people here. About 76.7 percent of working-age residents carry commercial insurance, which is what we contract with, and the bulk of it comes through employers: 65.8 percent hold an employer plan and 10.8 percent buy one directly. Around 9.8 percent are on Medi-Cal or another means-tested program, which we do not currently bill, and 6.8 percent have no coverage. If you are in either of those groups, raise it at the start of the call and we will be straight about whether self-pay with a sliding scale can work. About 4.2 percent of La Mirada’s civilian adults are veterans, and TRICARE and TriWest are both on our accepted list.
One more thing about the city shapes who tends to get in touch. Biola University, founded in 1908, has a 95-acre campus here and enrols more than 5,300 students across its campus, online and distance programs. Young adults are exactly the age when conditions such as ADHD, anxiety and the first episode of a mood disorder tend to surface or get properly named, often after years of coping without a word for it. If you are a student, the plan you are on decides billing, and a campus counselling service is not a reason to wait: what we add is diagnosis and medication, and the two work fine side by side.
What we do is psychiatric care in the specific sense. We take a careful history, reach a working diagnosis, start medication where it is the right tool, and follow up closely enough to change it if it is not helping. We do not run weekly talking therapy. If you need that as well, we will tell you at the first visit so you can find it near home rather than finding out months in.
The practical plan from La Mirada is simple. Drive in once for the evaluation, ideally outside the rush, because the first appointment is the one that gains most from being in the same room. After that, follow-ups can move to secure video anywhere in California, which saves an hour of freeway for a follow-up that is booked as half an hour.
If things become urgent, 988 answers by call or text at any hour, and the county’s ACCESS Center is on (800) 854-7771. La Mirada sits in the county’s Service Area 7.

Frequently asked questions
Which way should I drive from La Mirada?
The 605 south onto the 405 was quickest when we checked, 21.4 miles and about 32 minutes from City Hall at 11.30am on a Tuesday. The 91 was shorter at 17.3 miles but took about 34, and Rosecrans Avenue about 35. Three minutes covers all of them, so pick the one you find calmest. Rush hour was not sampled.
Can I get there on the train from La Mirada?
Not easily. There is no rail station in La Mirada. The nearest, Norwalk Station, is about 5.36 miles from City Hall and sits at the end of the C Line, which heads west rather than toward us, and none of its trains run through to Wardlow. For almost everyone here the car, or a video visit, will be simpler.
Is my insurance likely to be accepted?
The odds are good. About 76.7 percent of working-age residents hold commercial coverage, mostly through an employer, and those are the plans we contract with. Around 9.8 percent are on Medi-Cal, which we do not currently bill, and 6.8 percent have none. Tell us your carrier when you call and we will check before anything is booked.
I am a student at Biola. Can I be seen, and how does my coverage work?
Yes, students are seen like anyone else. What matters for billing is the plan you are on, whether that is a parent's employer plan, one you bought yourself, or something else, so bring the card details when you call. If the campus already offers you counselling, we can work alongside it, since what we add is diagnosis and medication.
I lie awake most nights and then crash in the afternoon. Where do I start?
With an evaluation rather than another sleep trick. Ongoing insomnia is sometimes its own condition and sometimes the first visible sign of depression, anxiety or a mood disorder, and the plan differs depending on which. We take a proper history of your sleep, your days and your mood before suggesting anything.
Do follow-up appointments have to be in person?
No. After the first assessment most reviews can happen by secure video, which reaches anywhere in California. Half an hour each way is manageable for one visit, but it adds up over months of short check-ins, and there is no clinical reason to insist on it once we know you.
Booking from La Mirada
Pick a time online and we will confirm it. Half an hour by car for the first visit, then video for the check-ins if you prefer.
