What we do
Evaluation and medication management for Santa Fe Springs
We are a psychiatric practice, not a therapy group and not a clinic directory. That means diagnosis, medication, and someone who keeps track of how you are actually doing over time.
Psychiatry Services
Comprehensive psychiatric care, including diagnosis, treatment planning, and ongoing management led by a board-certified provider.
Medication Management
Careful selection, monitoring, and adjustment of psychiatric medications to maximize benefit and minimize side effects.
Psychiatric Evaluation
A thorough first assessment to understand your history and symptoms and build an accurate diagnosis and plan.
What a first visit looks like
A full psychiatric evaluation runs about an hour. We go through what brought you in, your history, what you have tried before and how it went, physical health and medications, and what you want to be different. You leave with a working diagnosis where one is clear, a plan, and a follow-up booked, not a referral to somewhere else.
Follow-ups are shorter, usually every few weeks at first and further apart once things are steady. Medication changes are made deliberately, one at a time, so it stays possible to tell what is working.
In person or by video, from Santa Fe Springs
Both are real options and the clinical care is the same. Video visits are secure and available anywhere in California, which for most people makes the first appointment in person and the routine follow-ups from home or on a work break.
If getting here is the thing standing between you and treatment, take the video visit rather than skipping the care. That is what it is for.
New patients see Irine Achuamang, a psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner. Dr. Cho provides collaborating physician oversight.
Paying for care
Santa Fe Springs coverage, including Medi-Cal
We do not currently take Medi-Cal managed care. If that is your coverage, we are a self-pay option rather than a covered visit, and it is better to know that now than at the front desk. Self-pay is $250 for a 60-minute initial psychiatric evaluation and $150 for a 30-minute follow-up visit, and there is a sliding scale. Please ask.
We are in network with 19 commercial carriers, including Aetna, Anthem, Beacon Health Options, Carelon, Cigna and others, and you can check your own plan below before booking anything. That list includes TRICARE and TriWest, so service members, veterans and military families are billed like anyone else here.

About visiting us from Santa Fe Springs
From Santa Fe Springs the train is a real option, with a single change. Norwalk Station on the C Line is about 2.53 straight-line miles from City Hall on Telegraph Road, and the Census geocoder places it in Norwalk rather than in Santa Fe Springs itself. On Metro’s regular weekday timetable for Tuesday 6 October 2026, the C Line takes about 11 minutes from Norwalk to Willowbrook / Rosa Parks, where you change to the A Line for about 16 minutes south to Wardlow. Wardlow is half a mile from our door. That is around 27 minutes of riding, plus however long the second train takes to arrive, which this timetable count does not measure.
The drive is our weaker number, because we only have a Sunday sample. At 11.53am on Sunday 4 October 2026, the 605 onto the 91 took about 24 minutes over 15.2 miles, the 605 onto the 405 the same 24 minutes over a longer 19.3, and the 105 about 25 over 14.8. The office is closed on Sundays, so those numbers are the floor. A weekday trip will take longer, and we have not sampled one yet.
Santa Fe Springs is mostly a working city. It was incorporated in May 1957 with 4.9 square miles and now covers almost 9, which the city itself describes as 90 percent industrial. Its name dates from 1884, after the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway built its lines through town, and its oil era began with the first strike in 1921. The Census Gazetteer gives 8.858 square miles of land for about 18,871 residents, roughly 2,130 per square mile. The city has kept some of its older places, too. Heritage Park on Mora Drive is a six-acre reconstructed ranch estate from the late 1800s, with the No. 870 locomotive restored to its 1920 condition. The Clarke Estate on Pioneer Boulevard, a poured-concrete house by the architect Irving Gill completed in 1921, belongs to the city. The Hathaway Ranch and Oil Museum occupies five acres of the former Hathaway Home Ranch.
Coverage needs a plain statement. About 67.1 percent of working-age residents hold commercial insurance, the kind we contract with, 60.3 percent through an employer and 6.8 percent bought directly. About 21.1 percent are on Medi-Cal or another means-tested program, and we do not currently bill Medi-Cal; that is where the clinic stands now rather than a permanent rule. Another 5.8 percent have no coverage, and for them the self-pay rates and sliding scale are worth asking about first. About 5.0 percent of civilian adults are veterans, and TRICARE and TriWest are among the carriers we accept.
The care we offer is psychiatric. It begins with a long first appointment to understand what is happening, leads to a working diagnosis, uses medication where that is the right tool, and continues with reviews that adjust the plan as needed. Regular talking therapy is not something this office provides, so where it would help we point you toward it early.
When a relative starts hearing things nobody else hears, or holds a belief that no evidence can shift, the page on psychosis is a sensible first read. Psychosis can appear in several conditions, schizophrenia among them, and they are treatable, especially when care begins early.

Frequently asked questions
How does the train work from Santa Fe Springs?
With one change. Norwalk Station, about 2.53 miles from City Hall and inside Norwalk, is on the C Line. Ride it to Willowbrook / Rosa Parks, about 11 minutes, then take the A Line about 16 minutes to Wardlow, half a mile from our door. That is about 27 minutes in the vehicle on a regular weekday, plus the wait for the second train.
What should I expect for the drive from Santa Fe Springs on a weekday?
We only have a Sunday figure so far, and we would rather say so. At 11.53am on a Sunday the 605 onto the 91 took about 24 minutes from City Hall, and the 605 onto the 405 about the same over a longer distance. The office is closed on Sundays, so weekday trips will be slower than that.
About one in five working-age residents here is on Medi-Cal. Do you take it?
Not at the moment. About 21.1 percent of working-age residents in Santa Fe Springs have Medi-Cal or another means-tested program, so we say it up front. It is the clinic's current position rather than a permanent one. The county's ACCESS Center on (800) 854-7771 can point you to Medi-Cal psychiatric care, and Santa Fe Springs is in its Service Area 7.
My employer plan came with a lot of paperwork. How do I know if you are in network?
Give us the carrier name and the exact plan name from your card when you call, and we will check before anything is booked. About 60.3 percent of working-age residents here have employer coverage, which is commercial insurance and often one of the plans we contract with.
Since the accident I have not been myself. Is that something a psychiatrist can help with?
Often, yes. After a frightening event such as a serious accident, some people find that sleep, mood and concentration do not recover, or that they avoid driving or anything that brings it back. That can be post-traumatic stress or depression, and both are treatable. An evaluation is a sensible place to start.
Can my partner come with me to the appointment?
Yes, if you want them there. A partner can add useful history and help you remember what was said. You decide how much they are part of, and follow-ups can be in person or by video anywhere in California.
